2019 April-May BABOK Study Sessions:
Requirements Analysis and Design Definition
The Pittsburgh IIBA is offering a five-week set of BABOK Study Sessions to help you improve your Business Analysis skills and pass one of the IIBA’s certifications. Students can earn up to 10 hours of professional development toward a certification in the most fundamental Knowledge Areas, both in terms of foundation for each IIBA Core exam, as welll as one of the most fundamental in Business Analysis skills.
When is the class?
The Study Sessions will run
Thursdays
7-9 PM
April 18 - May 16, 2019
The Study Sessions will cover Chapter 7 of the BABOK: Requirements Analysis and Design Definition. We’ll also take a deeper dive into many of the Techniques covered in this chapter.
What is the class about?
We will use the BABOK v3 and the Watermark BABOK Study Guide v3 as a supplement. Additionally, we will focus on real examples from our experience, as well as practical exercises around hypothetical situations. The class will provide templates of many deliverables.
How much does the class cost?
Cost for the class:
$50 for IIBA Chapter Members (including other chapters)
$75 for non-members
FREE for IIBA Chapter Members with active CCBA or CBAP certifications
(we want to encourage certificate holders to get comfortable with v3, earn CDUs to maintain your cert, AND maybe facilitate an upcoming class)
All fees support the Pittsburgh IIBA Chapter
How is the class administered?
The class will be facilitated live via WebEx. You will need a reliable internet connection to participate. There will not be a phone number to dial in; we’ll use our computer microphones to talk via WebEx. Recordings will not be available, but slide decks will.
Students will need a copy of
A Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK) version 3
|
|
Watermark Learning’s CBAP Certification Study Guide, version 3
|
Why are you offering this class?
Every month, we receive several requests, asking when Pittsburgh will start the next set of BABOK Review Sessions. We receive requests from:
- Students working on their BS in Management of Information Sciences or MBAs who want to start their career with an ECBA certificate to show future employers they already understand Business Analysis
- People looking to make a career change (especially HR) to Business Analysis who also want to differentiate themselves with an ECBA
- Mid-level BAs who want to earn a CCBA to position themselves for a promotion
- Senior BAs who want to earn a CBAP complete a career goal
- Technical and business managers, project managers, developers, quality analysts, and entrepreneurs who just want to improve their Business Analysis skills
Building on the lessons learned from our 2018 Fall BABOK Study Sessions, we’ll be breaking our sessions into smaller pieces that focus on real examples rather than theory. Our first goal will be to make you a better BA. Our second goal is to help you understand the BABOK in practical terms. .
We intend to cover other chapters of the BABOK over the next several months. Our first five-week set of Study Sessions focuses on Chapter 7: Requirements Analysis and Design Definition because
- This Knowledge Area is foundational for the work we do as Business Analysts. The tasks and techniques we’ll cover are ones that Business Analysts from all domains use, whether they have the title Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, or even Project Manager or any other part of the enterprise.
- This Knowledge Area makes up the largest parts of each certification exam. Whether you’re taking the ECBA, CCBA, or CBAP, more of the questions will be about Requirements Analysis and Design Definition and its techniques than any other Knowledge Area.
