September 2023 Chapter Meeting
Pittsburgh Needs Business Analysts
(and POs and SMs and PMs and a bunch of other jobs)
-
Are you a grownup that doesn’t know what they want to be when they grow up?
Our Septmember 11 meeting will help you decide if a career in information management is right for you and identify the next steps.
On August 1, 2023, on Indeed.com for Pittsburgh, there were
· 187 hits for Business Analyst
· 408 hits for Project Manager
· 35 hits for Scrum Master
· 102 hits for Product Owner
Most recruiters will tell you that these roles are hard to fill – demand outweighs supply. But how do you break into the field of information management? Do you need to major in it? How much experience do you need?
Join us for a talk about how to parlay your current skills into one of many valuable careers in information management. We'll discuss what exactly different roles actually do and how to get your foot in that door. We'll also talk about what aptitudes you'll need to not only succeed, but enjoy your new role. Finally, we'll provide a list of resources to help you get started.
This talk is geared not only at folks who want to break into business analysis, but also junior BAs who want to advance their career.

Mathew McConnell is the Chief Technology Officer for Fusion Technology, LLC and a Past President of International Institute of Business Analysis, Pittsburgh Chapter. Matt was a German Major at a small liberal arts college. Unfortunately, he waited until he graduated to address the question of "What do you do with a German Major? The Germans already speak English." It took a while, but eventually Matt found his calling, first as a Business Analyst, later as Project Manager, scrum master, product owner, and occasionally doing stuff like User Interface Design or Enterprise Architecture. |
