September 2022 Chapter Meeting

Monday, September 12, 2022 -
6:00pm to 7:30pm

Product Ownership for Business Analysts

  • What does it take for my Business Analyst organization to succeed as a team of Product Owners?
  • How will I need to change as an individual Product Owner to succeed in this new world?

Join us Monday, September 12, 2022 for a discussion about what we've seen succeed and fail in terms of product ownership.

The good news is if you helped lead your old waterfall projects to success as a business analyst, you'll probably be successful owning your product and leading your agile teams to success by being flexible and strategic about the work you do in this new world.

We'll talk about what skills and mindsets you need to foster to continue your growth on an agile team. We'll talk about how you can help lead your organization up, down, and across the org chart for more successful outcomes. Whether you're on a single Scrum team, part of a group of POs on a SAFe Agile Release Train, or even just trying to introduce a little agility into your old-school command-and-control structure, we'll have some tools to help you.

Mathew McConnell is a Consultant for Fusion Technology, LLC and the President of International Institute of Business Analysis, Pittsburgh Chapter.

Matt has spent 15 years helping teams deliver a range of technical public and private sector programs in supply chain, cybersecurity, retail, and ecommerce. Originally trained as a Business Analyst, Matt has applied the lessons of communicating software requirements to the broader problem of achieving business-IT clarity: sometimes as a Product Owner, sometimes as a Scrum Master, sometimes as a BA, sometimes as a PM, but always with an agile mentality.

Matt started off with a bachelor's in foreign language but found along the way that coaching business and IT to become cross-fluent with each other was far more fulfilling. Since that realization, he's earned an MS in Technical Management from the Whiting School of Engineering at Johns Hopkins and maintains several certifications in business analysis, project management, and agile. Matt is active in the International Institute of Business Analysis, Project Management Institute, and other professional development organizations.
