Designing Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence: A UX Framework


Artificial intelligence (AI) holds great promise to empower us with knowledge and scaled effectiveness. To harness the power of AI systems, we can -- and must -- ensure that we keep humans safe and in control. This session will introduce a new user experience (UX) framework to guide the creation of AI systems that are accountable, de-risked, respectful, secure, honest and usable.

Bio:
Carol Smith has been conducting user experience (UX) research to improve the human experience across industries for 19 years and working to improve AI systems since 2015. She is a Senior Research Scientist in Human-Machine Interaction at Carnegie Mellon University's Software Engineering Institute and an adjunct instructor for Carnegie Mellon University's Human Centered Interaction Institute. Carol holds an MS in human-computer interaction from DePaul University.
